News Wates Wins Bolton Shopping Centre Work

Wates Construction has been appointed main contractor on a project to redevelop Bolton Marketplace.

The project, which Bolton Council approved earlier this month, is expected to start next month and will see a 30,000 sq ft nine-screen cinema build on top of the existing shopping centre, which will also benefit from new lifts and escalators.

The Victorian vaults in the basement are also being restored to create a restaurant and bar area.

The project is expected to be complete after 44 weeks in spring next year.

Tony Shenton, business unit director for Wates Contruction in the North West, said:” “We are currently preparing to commence construction alongside the fully operational shopping centre and we will remain focused on engaging with local businesses and customers to ensure minimal disruption is caused.”

Tim Vaughan, chief executive of the UK manager group at Moorgarth, which owns the shopping centre, said: “Now we have the green light from Bolton Council, we are delighted to be working with Wates to get the construction under way to deliver a high quality asset which will create a much needed nighttime family-friendly economy that everyone in Bolton and beyond can enjoy.”
