News Vinci Wins £12m Bristol Cathedral Development

Vinci Construction UK has been appointed by Student Castle to undertake the development of the former Bristol Pro Cathedral site into new student accommodation.

On completion, the project will comprise 229 student units and will involve the construction of a new building comprising a large concrete frame and the part refurbishment of the existing grade II listed cathedral, with a structured steel frame erected internally.

Chris Pape, managing director building division – Midlands, South West, Wales and Retail commented: “We welcome the unique challenge that the transformation of the Bristol Pro-Cathedral will provide for VINCI Construction UK. Drawing on all of our experience, we will work closely with Student Castle to ensure that all works are finished to the highest standard on this unique building.”

The Pro Cathedral was the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bristol between 1850 and 1973. After the design and construction of a new cathedral in Clifton the building became home of the Bristol Steiner School until they vacated the premises in 2002.
