News Restructure Mastermind Leaves Mouchel

David Shearer, the man who led Mouchel through a restructure that included it going briefly into administration in late 2012, is to step down from being chairman at the end of next month.

Shearer, who was appointed in January 2012 specifically to manage the restructure, will be succeeded by Michael Jeffries, the former W S Atkins chairman and chief executive who joined the board as a non-executive director in May 2013.

Jeffries said: “David Shearer has done an excellent job over the last two years leading the very successful restructuring of the business which is evidenced by the recently announced results for the year ending September 2013. I look forward to working with Grant Rumbles and the Mouchel management team as they continue to develop the business in the UK and internationally.”

Shearer said: “I joined Mouchel to ensure that it was put on a firm financial footing following the difficulties of the previous three years and that job is now done. The financial restructuring of the company was critical in securing its future and, together with the operational transformation led by the new management team, provided the platform that has allowed it to perform strongly over the past year. Mouchel has excellent growth prospects and I am delighted to be leaving the company in such capable hands.”
