Galliford Try has reached financial close with casino operator Genting UK to build the £89m Resorts World leisure and retail development at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham.

The plan includes a new casino, a 716-bed four or five-star hotel and spa, conference facilities, a factory outlet centre, a cinema, food and drink retail space and parking for around 480 cars.

The project is set to get underway in October and is scheduled for completion in January 2015.

Greg Fitzgerald, Galliford Try chief executive, said: “This contract represents a significant success for our business in a difficult market for construction.

“We are delighted we have completed a successful negotiation with Genting UK and now look forward to starting on site on what will be one of the most prestigious projects in the Midlands of recent times.”
