Ealing Council Appoints Higgins Construction Build New Homes Golf Links Estate

Ealing Council has appointed Higgins Construction to build 68 newbuild homes on the Golf Links Estates in Southall.

The £17.5 million contract awarded to Higgins includes the delivery of a new purpose-built community centre and nursery, which will replace the temporary cabins the service has been previously using for the last 30 years.

In addition to the 68 new homes at Peterhead Court intended for rent and sale to first-time buyers, the project also involves the replacement of 20 existing “sub-standard” homes built in the 1970s.

Council leader, Councillor Julian Bell, said: “Our successful partnership with Higgins Construction for the new Peterhead Court development is indicative of the council’s proactive approach to creating better places to live and work. We are transforming the lives of our residents and enabling many families in Ealing to get their foot on the property ladder. I look forward to seeing this new development take off over the next year.”

Paul Cooke, new business director for Higgins Construction, added: “We are delighted to be awarded the contract for Peterhead Court and look forward to working with London Borough of Ealing.

We are also committed to taking on local labour at each of our sites and will create employment opportunities for local people around Peterhead Court through our training and apprenticeship schemes.”

Golf Links Estate was identified in 2008 as one of the handful of “high intervention estates” in need of regeneration to bring it in line with the Government’s Decent Homes standard.

Peterhead Court is the next phase of the development of the estate, and follows on from the current scheme completing at Dormers Rise for 57 council new build homes. The scheme will be constructed to London Plan standards and meet Lifetime Homes and Secure by Design. All properties will also be highly insulated to reduce heating costs. Work is expected to start in early Autumn with completion due in the Summer of 2018.
