The Specialist Construction Confederation (SCC) as part of its support for contractors in Northern Ireland has become a member of the International Powered Access Federation (IPAF).

SCC Health & Safety Director, Caroline Dunlop, explains: "Joining IPAF will enable us to develop an industry-approved training centre under the PAL Scheme (Scissorlift & Boom). This will also expand our already comprehensive services on behalf of our members."

"Such safety courses are essential, particularly in Northern Ireland when you consider that a contractor is four times more likely to be killed on a construction site in Northern Ireland compared to the rest of the UK and Ireland."

In addition it has opened an office in Parkgate, County Antrim.

SCC's Managing Director, Robert Ryce, said: "There has been tremendous growth within the construction industry in Northern Ireland and, after recruiting several new members in the last few months, we recognised the need for our support to be based locally."
