Contractors fail to train staff E-mail

The construction industry is not helping itself when it comes to the skill shortages, because it is failing to train its existing staff.

A survey by the Learning and Skill Council revealed that a third of construction firms don't train their staff – leading to more unfilled vacancies (40%) than in any other industry.

The LSC has its own traiing service, Train to Gain, and used this as an example of how training could benefit companies.

It found that 42% of almost 4,000 businesses using the LSC's Train to Gain Service saw higher productivity, increased profit margins, improved product and service quality, as well as improvements to staff loyalty and retention.
