£60m Scottish wind farm gets green light E-mail

A £60m wind farm in Scotland has been given the green light by the Scottish Government.

The 20-turbine Carraig Gheal wind farm will be located near Kilchrenan, Argyll.

The decision to approve the plans was taken by Finance Minister John Swinney as the location falls within the constituency of energy minister Jim Mather.

Power from the wind farm could supply around 32,000 homes when completed in 2010.

Green Power, the company in charge of the project, had originally asked for permission to erect 24 turbines.

But it reduced the number over concerns about the visual impact of the site and the safety of birds.

Building is due to begin next year.

Applications for another 37 renewable energy projects are currently before the Scottish Government.
