Property Developers Urban Splash will begin work on the first phase of the redevelopment of Sheffield’s Park Hill estate, after the City Council gave planning permission. Urban Splash are expected to start work on the refurbishment of over 300 flats, a new multi-storey car park and community buildings underneath-including a health centre, nursery, ethical superstore, offices, and a café, at the end of the year. The redevelopment is a partnership between Urban Splash, Sheffield City Council, Manchester Methodist Housing Association, and English Partnerships. It is a flagship project for the Transform South Yorkshire Housing Market Renewal Pathfinder. English Heritage has also been closely involved. Councillor Jan Wilson, leader of the Council said: "The redevelopment of Park Hill is a key part of the regeneration of Sheffield as a whole. A massive amount of hard work has gone into getting us to this stage. We want to make Park Hill a really great part of the city, and these plans enable the work to start." Simon Gawthorpe, managing director, Urban Splash Yorkshire, added: "We are really pleased that we have received planning permission for the first phase of Park Hill and now the hard work really starts as we look forward to starting on site and turning our plans into reality."
