Sports city casino still alive E-mail

The super casino planned for East Manchester could still go ahead, according to senior figures within Manchester City Council.

Just days after Gordon Brown appeared to blow the casino plans out of the water, in a speech to Parliament, senior councillors have been in talks with Government ministers. And they are convinced the casino will go ahead.

Council leader Sir Richard Leese revealed: " We have had discussions with senior ministers in the past 24 hours and have been assured that the proposed destination casino at Sportcity remains on the table.

“At the same time ministers have confirmed that they want to take the opportunity of the parliamentary recess to explore all options that would enable us to meet our regeneration objectives and that they share the same bottom line as the council of the creation of 3000 new jobs in East Manchester"
