The London Thames Gateway Development Corporation (LTGDC) has launched its vision for London Riverside, part of the Thames Gateway. LTGDC, the London Development Agency (LDA) and English Partnerships together with the councils of Newham, Havering and Barking and Dagenham are working together to dramatically redevelop London Riverside and create a flagship location for sustainable urban living and employment. With plans for new transport links and the regeneration of existing town centres and other existing infrastructure, the London Riverside is set to become a distinctive part of the capital. Plans are in place to provide over 30,000 new homes and 17,000 new local jobs. New plans for transport include an extension of the DLR to Barking Riverside and Dagenham Dock and the development of ferry crossings between Barking Riverside and Erith town centre. Barking town centre will also be remodelled and completely revitalised with approximately 9,000 new homes and the historic village of Rainham will have 3,000 new homes, a new transport interchange, public squares as well as a new library and learning centre. Peter Andrews, chief executive of LTGDC, said: “London Riverside is a truly exciting project and steadily we are demonstrating how it is possible to transform what was previously a neglected space into a dynamic community where people want to work, invest, live and relax.” |
