Keepmoat gets Durham land E-mail

The City of Durham Council’s Cabinet has agreed to transfer 51 freehold sites to the Durham Villages Regeneration Limited.

The sites which range from small pockets of land to more significant areas have been identified with the specific intention of being able to continue protecting the district's ambitions for regeneration.

The DVR is a joint venture with the Council and Keepmoat and over the past ten years both organisations have been involved in the construction of almost 600 affordable homes for sale and 300 for rent or shared ownership.

Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Carol Woods said after the meeting,

"This is necessary to protect opportunities in our district over the next few years and further and although the DVR may choose not to acquire certain sites, the ones they do want to progress will still need formal documentation about development agreements for projects and so on.

"I also want to reassure residents that any proposed development area within their local area will always be subject to full consultation."

Since 2003, £5 million has been invested in initiatives such as Annand House community facility at Meadowfield, a new community centre, bowling green and leisure facilities at Newton Hall.
