The national regeneration agency, English Partnerships has submitted an outline planning application for the £400m Heart of Slough project and a detailed application for remodelling the A4 in the town.
The application, based on the plans revealed in January, covers a substantial area of the town centre on either side of Wellington Street (A4) and will provide the catalyst for regeneration in the centre of Slough. The Heart of Slough programme is set to play the lead role in revitalising and re-energising the town centre in conjunction with Slough Borough Council's "Revitalising Slough" programme. The application will cover: In addition a new building will provide an iconic landmark for Slough and house the new library alongside St Ethelbert's church. David Ashworth, area director for English Partnerships said: "This project is a long-term regeneration opportunity which we are keen to progress. This application represents the next stage in plans to revitalise Slough and we hope that once Planning permission is received we will be well placed to take significant steps towards delivering this major transformational project." If approved the scheme is due to be completed by 2018. |
