Three developers have this week made the shortlist to create a new, environmentally sustainable neighbourhood on a former Hospital site in Dartford, Kent. The three shortlisted developers for the Stone House Hospital site are:
* Consortium of Barratt Homes and PJ Livesey Group National regeneration agency English Partnerships, acquired the historic site near the town centre in Spring 2007. Formerly a Victorian asylum, all of the buildings at Stone House are Grade II listed and surrounded by open spaces and mature parkland. The 6.1 ha site offers the potential to deliver a residential development incorporating the conversion and refurbishment of existing buildings as well as new build opportunities. All new buildings will be required to attain Level 3 of the government's Code for Sustainable Homes. John Carroll, senior regeneration manager at English Partnerships said: "We are working with Dartford Borough Council to determine the best future use for the 140 year old Stone House Hospital on Cotton Lane. Local people are invited to attend the next public exhibition for an update on our progress and to comment on our proposals to create a sustainable, safe and attractive neighbourhood.
"Once appointed, our development partner will be expected to fully engage the local community in the regeneration process and take responsibility for the long-term management of the site."
