Manchester City Council has approved a £1bn regeneration project to transform east Manchester.

The 95-acre Holt Town Waterfront development was the largest planning application in the city's history.

The project from developer Cibitas, will include 4,300 houses and flats, a park, metrolink tram stop, school, offices and a range of shops and restaurants.

The project will sit on a plot next to the 2002 Commonwealth Games-driven Sportcity development, a mile east of the city centre.

The site will be developed over the next 10 to 15 years.
