The London Development Agency (LDA) began the process of selecting a masterplan design team to transform east London following the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

They will create the physical framework for new homes, parkland, schools, health facilities, infrastructure and work space in the Lower Lea Valley for the largest regeneration opportunity in inner London.

The Olympic legacy masterplan will form the basis of an outline planning application in 2009 which will provide the context for future Olympic Park planning applications post 2012.

Manny Lewis, Chief Executive of the London Development Agency, said: "The 2012 Games are a unique opportunity to regenerate one of London's most deprived areas. We are committed to building sustainable communities where people can work, live and prosper. We have already reached a major milestone by taking possession of the Olympic Park site and after the Games we will create a thriving urban area on it.

"We will be working closely with the local boroughs, the ODA and other partners to ensure that the designs complement the wider regeneration ambitions of the Lower Lea Valley and plans to retain sporting venues."

The masterplan will set the framework for the future development of the Olympic site. It will form the basis of future legacy planning applications that will shape the Olympic Legacy park, retained venues and mixed-use development.

The LDA is seeking a multi-disciplinary team that include a wide range of expertise including urban design, town planning, architects and masterplanners, with a strong track record of delivering high quality development projects within complex urban environments.

They will liaise closely with project partners and stakeholders including the Greater London Authority, Design for London, the Olympic Delivery Authority, the five host Olympic boroughs, Transport for London, the Lea Valley Regional Park Authority and London Thames Gateway Development Corporation.
