Olympic Village design shortlist E-mail
Friday, 10 August 2007

Australian developer Lend Lease has issued a "short list" of architects who will be invited to work on different aspects of its £2.2 billion Olympic Village, one of the most important elements of the 2012 Olympic Games.

The list covers 47 separate practices which could lead some to conclude that it has more to do with generating the maximum publicity, rather than ensuring that the scheme arrives on time.

The prospect of architects literally tripping over each other on site, became possible when the developer and its panel of judges decided to go for a mix of both established architects and up and comers. At least 15 of the practices short-listed have less than ten employees.

The list is mainly British, but does include architects from the US, Norway, Germany, Australia and Switzerland.

Each architect, according to the developer, will work on different aspects of the Olympic village which will house 4,000.
