The demolition of a disused printworks in East London later this week will officially start the construction of the 2012 Olympic Stadium The demolition of the printworks, which stands on the spot where the £600 million, 80,000 seat Olympic Stadium will be built, will symbolise the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) finally taking control of the full, 2.5 sq kilometre Olympic Park area. The news comes as it was announced that Sir Robert McAlpine, the contractor behind the Arsenal's new Emirates stadium, has been signed up to build the stadium. Earlier this week the ODA announced the shortlisted firms which will be competing to deliver the first packages of structures, bridges, highways and associated infrastructure for the Olympic Park, in Games time and in legacy, have been announced by the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA). The project has been divided into a number of Olympic contract packages to maximise market interest and present opportunities to a range of companies. In March an OJEU contract notice was issued for the first four packages of work and teams have now been shortlisted for each package.
