Formal planning permission has been granted for the Olympic Delivery Authority to construct the venues for the London 2012 Games and create Europe’s largest urban park in 150 years. The ODA submitted two planning applications totalling 10,000 pages in February 2007 setting out plans for new sporting venues, infrastructure and open space within the Olympic Park in Stratford, east London. They also outlined plans for how the area would be transformed for use by the local community after the Games. The applications were approved in principle last month by the ODA Planning Committee, an independent body with externally appointed members, and referred to the Government Office for London and Greater London Authority. Now that these two bodies have approved the applications, formal planning permission, subject to conditions, can be given. |
