London 2012 search for timber suppliers
Wednesday, 05 March 2008

The search has started for a specialist 'Timber Supplier Panel' for the Olympic Park made up of around 20 timber suppliers.

The timber will be used across the Olympic Park and on venues such as the track for the Velodrome.

All timber used on the construction project must be fully traceable, legal and from sustainable sources - helping make London 2012 a truly green Games.

The Timber Supplier Panel will supply around 600,000 square metres of hardwood, plywood and other timber products to the Olympic Park. Enough softwood timber to fill 16 50-metre swimming pools will also be supplied.

The panel will keep records that can trace products from their source right through the supply chain to the Olympic Park site, helping to ensure the timber provided is legal and sustainable.

The panel is expected to be appointed in July 2008.
