Racial abuse on a construction site near Milford Haven is now being treated as a criminal matter. Mr Omar Mohammed, who was working for engineering firm Shaw’s UK, suffered “serious racial abuse” at the hands of a worker from sub-contractors Bowercross Civil Engineering two weeks ago at the coastal terminal for the trans-Wales liquefied natural pipeline near Milford Haven. Bowercross were subcontracting for Taylor Woodrow, and Shaw’s UK were being subcontracted by US firm Chicago Bridge and Iron (CB&I) – the construction giants behind the project. Today a union official from GMB, who was present onsite yesterday morning, told B&E online the aggrieved had received the abuse and the matter was now in the hands of Milford Haven Police. He said: “Statements have been taken from both employees and the matter has now turned into a criminal prosecution matter and is being handled by Milford Haven Police.” The employee from Bowercross has been suspended. Another man, who was also alleged to have made racial insults, escaped off site and has not returned since. The union official confirmed that CB&I are now in the middle of carrying out an investigation.
