Britain’s two biggest unions – Unite and UNISON - have both submitted motions to the 2007 TUC congress demanding a change in government policy to enable local authorities to improve existing and build new council homes. The unions see investment in public housing as the obvious solution to their members own housing needs. Gordon Brown faced sharp questioning on the so called ‘Fourth Option’ at a number of union conferences earlier this summer and it is likely to be raised with him again when he addresses Congress which starts at Brighton today. |
