Construction industry slow to quit smoking E-mail
Friday, 27 April 2007
With less than three months to go before England goes smoke free, new research shoes that the Construction industry is unsure of the details of the new smoking regulations.

Department of Health research shows that although 78% of construction businesses are aware of the forthcoming legislation, when questioned on the detail, 10% thought that smoking rooms would still be allowed.

The legislation will mean that virtually all enclosed and substantially enclosed public places and workplaces will need to be smokefree, including work vehicles that are used by more than one person.

Caroline Flint, Public Health Minister said: "The countdown is now well underway until England goes smokefree. All businesses need to ensure that they know exactly what they need to do before 1 July.  Closing smoking rooms and making sure that everyone displays the correct signage will play a key part in the smooth introduction of this legislation.  Guidance is now available to download and is currently being mailed directly to businesses.  We are confident that by working together everyone should be ready in time."
