Cement firm hits back at payment row E-mail

Cement supplier Cemex has hit back at suggestions that the company is embroiled in the threat of industrial action.

Reacting to media reports this week that thousands of UK sites could soon come to a standstill over the threat industrial action by the company’s concrete mixer owner-drivers, a spokeswoman told B&E that no direct threats of legal action from hauliers had been received.

She said: “The introduction of new systems has led to issues regarding payment and statement reconciliation, but we are making progress. In July 98% of independent hauliers were paid on time. There are still some historic payments to reconcile, however, but we are confident that these will be resolved very soon.”

She added: “We are sorry for the inconvenience this has caused our independent hauliers. However, a dedicated team is working hard to resolve these issues as soon as possible. We have also set up a hotline for hauliers to call with their queries.”
