The Department for Transport has announced that NXEC Trains, a subsidiary of National Express Group, has been awarded the contract to operate services on the InterCity East Coast rail franchise. The franchise comprises of services connecting London with Scotland via Peterborough and the north of England. It will start on 09 December 2007 until 31st March 2015, with the last 17 months conditional on set performance levels being reached.
£1.4bn (NPV) will be paid over the life of the franchise in premium as a contribution to DfT's rail budget. |
