Magistrates have ordered Just Granite to pay nearly £15,000 after a worker was crushed to death.
The company pleaded guilty to a breach of health and safety legislation at Stafford Magistrates' Court last week.
The incident occurred on the 7 November 2005 when Lubomir Tihlar, a lorry driver from the Czech Republic, was fatally crushed when slabs of granite weghing more than six tonnes fell and trapped him.
Speaking after the case, HSE investigating inspector Peter Yoxall said: "The death of Tihlar was the tragic result of a failure to take practicable precautions to control the risks associated with the unloading of vehicles that contained granite slabs. Carrying out a risk assessment for workplace transport and making sure that it is practical and effective is sensible health and safety."
