Health and safety officers have closed more than half the building sites visited in a swoop on central Manchester.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has carried out an intensive two days of spot checks on construction sites. Inspectors visited 50 sites and closed 32. The sites will remain closed until remediation work has taken place. Officials issued 27 improvement notices, which require remedial work to be carried out within a specified period. The HSE aimed its campaign on refurbishment sites, which it claims is responsible for the greatest number of deaths in the construction industry. The organisation aims to inspect 1,000 refurbishment sites across Great Britain as part a nationwide campaign. |
