A workman died and another was seriously injured after a crane collapsed at a Liverpool building site yesterday. The 120ft JASO J138PA Luffing jib crane was on hire from Falcon Crane Hire. Emergency services were called to the incident on Seel Street in the city centre at about 4.10pm. One man was taken to the Royal Liverpool Hospital suffering from a shoulder injury. Police are still trying to identify the deceased, who is believed to have been a workman on the luxury apartment development, Elysian Fields. Mike Wickham, Managing Director of David McLean Contractors said: “David McLean Contractors is fully co-operating with the Police and Health and Safety Executive, whilst they carry out their enquiries. As a result, we are currently restricted from commenting further. However, our sincere sympathies are with both families.”
A spokesperson from the HSE said that the investigation with Merseyside Police is currently ongoing with but initial indications show no sign of a common failure to the crane. |
