The explosion, on a Welwyn Garden City site being worked on by Laing O’Rourke subsidiary Crown House, happened yesterday afternoon. It is understood that the accident happened when a gas cylinder exploded.

The man who was killed has not yet been named. The injured men are receiving treatment at hospital. One is in a critical condition.

The Health and Safety Executive and police specialists are now examining the scene of the accident.
