Judge blast in Taylor Woodrow case E-mail
Friday, 15 August 2008

A district Judge has criticised solicitors acting for Taylor Woodrow for delaying a court case into a worker’s death.

Taylor Woodrow Construction had already appeared at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court last month and pleaded guilty to breaching health and safety laws.

The case concerns the death of John Walsh, 53, from Bristol, who was a foreman working at the new Senedd building in 2004.

He fell 10-feet from a ladder while he was filling a cavity between two walls, on March 14, while working for Bristol based sub contractor Fersons Construction Services Limited.

He was taken to hospital but died the following day.

District Judge John Charles adjourned the case until today for a basis of plea to be agreed.

However, solicitors acting for Taylor Woodrow said that this had yet to be reached with the prosecution and requested another adjournment of “three to four weeks”.

According to Wales Online, the Judge  then said: “No, I’m not going to adjourn this case.I want to know within seven days the basis of plea from Taylor Woodrow.

“It is complete nonsense to suggest three to four weeks on a case that goes back to 2004.

“I’m just not going to entertain it."

The case was adjourned to Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on Friday, August 22.
