Groundworker fined after worker was trapped in drill E-mail

Consolidate has today been fined £3,500 after pleading guilty to breaches in health and safety after an employee was injured.

The company was found guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff's Court following the incident in May last year. The employee was caught in the drill string on a Halco 450 drilling rig. He broke both arms and an elbow.

Hazel Yuill, an HSE Inspector involved in the case said: "Safe operation of this machine relied on training, experience and close supervision all of which were very limited in this case. The only safety system present on the machine was a single trip wire, which was not operating correctly and was not checked regularly. There were also no written instructions detailing the work methods to ensure safety."
