The British Constructional Steel Association has launched a new service to meet tougher safety regulations. The Safety in Steel Construction Health and Safety Service follows requests from the industry to provide further health and safety services. Employers have a duty under the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations to appoint one or more “competent persons” to meet the measures needed to comply with the requirements of health and safety at work. Additional focus on the subject of “competent persons” will be highlighted with the release of the new Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007 and the requirement for contractors to demonstrate they have the “Core Criteria of Contractors Safety”
The first element of the core criteria is to ensure the “competent person” role is adequately covered. |
