Asbestos breach costs Kent construction company
Tuesday, 06 November 2007
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has prosecuted a Kentish contractor for asbestos breaches on a project at a Littlewoods store.

Magistrates ordered Galamast of Bromley, Kent, to pay £36,140 after an asbestos incident.

The company was carrying out a stripout of an old Littlewood's store in the Harpur Centre, Bedford, in March 2006 when verbal instructions were misunderstood, leading to its employees, sub contractors and health and safety inspectors for the client exposed to asbestos.

The work was being carried out on behalf of Primark who took over several Littlewood's stores during 2005/6.
