Tower Bridge facelift E-mail
Tuesday, 08 April 2008

London's Tower Bridge is to be given a £6m facelift which will take four years to complete.

Southwark Bridge is also to be given the same treatment.

Both bridges will be stripped to their metal frame and painted in their original colours.

The work will commissioned by Bridge House Estates, a City trust which maintains the five bridges connecting the City to the south bank of the Thames.

Around a quarter of each of the two bridges will be refurbished at a time, to minimise disruption to road and river traffic.
