US developer Thomas Enterprises' plan to redevelop one of the capital's best known office buildings into a "six-star" hotel overlooking the Tower of London has been recommended for approval.

Designed by architect Woods Bagot the £150m project will see the Grade-II listed 10 Trinity Square converted into a 131-bedroom hotel and 30 apartments.

Thomas Enterprises run by American property magnate Stan Thomas purchased the site in 2006. Built between 1915 and 1922, 10 Trinity Square was originally the headquarters of the Port of London Authority and insurer Willis.

Members of the City of London Corporation will now rule on the application at a meeting of the planning and transportation committee next week.
