Strategic Sites has submitted a revised planning application for its Waterfront Quarter scheme in Huddersfield. The proposed development will take place on a six-acre site on the edge of Huddersfield town centre. The new plans include a 300,000 sq ft campus for Huddersfield Technical College, which is due to open in September 2011. It will also include 190,000 sq ft of office space, 300 homes, leisure facilities, a public square, and extensive works to the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. Strategic Sites was appointed lead developer for the scheme last year. It is a joint venture between Helios Properties, Kilmartin Property Group, and JC Musgrave, and is headed by former English Partnerships director Paul Barber. The site is occupied by long established manufacturing firm Sellers Engineering and Kirklees Council. Strategic Sites is working with Sellers' development section, Ramsden and Colne Developments, on the mixed-use project. The developer has also worked with Kirklees Council and development agency Yorkshire Forward on the scheme. The main architects of the scheme are DLG Architects.
If planning permission is given work could begin in autumn 2008. |
