Roussillon Barracks developer sought E-mail

English Partnerships has started the search for a development partner for Roussillon Barracks, after purchasing the site in Chichester from the Ministry of Defence.

The former home of the Military Police has been ear-marked for a new community as part of English Partnerships' comprehensive national regeneration programme to return surplus public sector land to community use.

The development site consists of approximately 7ha, of which up to 5ha has been allocated for development. The land sits adjacent to the former Graylingwell Hospital site which is currently being developed by English Partnerships in conjunction with Linden Homes and Downland.

As part of Chichester District Council's North East Chichester Development Brief, Roussillon Barracks has been designated for residential development.

Plans are likely to include a range of community facilities to accompany the new housing stock.  All homes built will conform to the highest design and environmental standards and are likely to meet a minimum requirement of Level 4 for the Code of Sustainable Homes. The density of residential development at the site will be between 40 and 60 units per hectare.

David Edwards, English Partnerships southern regional director said: "This is an outstanding site and a practical demonstration of the Government's Housing Green Paper by unlocking more surplus land to meet housing needs.  English Partnerships is creating the potential opportunity for more than one developer to work with us on this single site, to increase the choice and delivery of new homes.  We will see how developers respond, and will be working closely with the local planning authority.”
