Newquay airport is likely to expand rapidly over the next few years following agreement on a major funding package.

Cornwall County Council has now received approval from the EU for the use of public sector funding to implement an investment package for Newquay Cornwall Airport. This investment package, currently estimated at £44 million, will provide the essential funding required to transform the airport from its current RAF use into a commercial passenger airport.

The aid package approved includes funding from EU Objective 1, Government and the Regional Development Agency.

David Whalley leader of the council says “This is great news and means an important element for the airport’s future has been secured. It shows that the EU recognises the importance of Newquay Cornwall Airport and is aware of it’s pivotal role to the future economy of Cornwall.”
