New water company formed E-mail

Ofwat has appointed a second new company since privatisation to supply water and sewerage services to domestic customers.

The regulator has granted Independent Water Networks Limited (IWNL) an inset appointment that will allow it to supply a 950-home development at Long Croft Road, in Corby, Northamptonshire.

Inset appointments allow for one supplier to be replaced by another for a specific geographical area. IWNL will serve its customers by buying water from Anglian Water and discharging sewage to Anglian Water's Network.

Customers at Long Croft Road will benefit from the change of supply straightaway - IWNL has said that its 2007-08 water volumetric charge will be 5% lower than that of Anglian Water. Other charges will be the same.

In the future Ofwat requires that IWNL's customers will pay no more than if had they been supplied by Anglian Water. Ofwat also requires the customers to receive a quality of service as least as good as if Anglian Water had served the Long Croft Road site.
