Six architect firms have entered designs into a competition to win the contract to shape the future look of the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare.
A shortlist of redevelopment plans for the historic pier were revealed today - just eight weeks after the seaside landmark was destroyed by fire. The 104-year-old pier was destroyed when a blaze broke out in July. The six firms of architects who have submitted designs are Stride Treglown, Acanthus Ferguson Mann, Angus Meek, AWW , Grimshaw and Ray Hole. Pier owners, brother and sister Kerry and Michelle Michael, will choose a winning design with a team of stakeholders, including local authorities and English Heritage. The designs will be on display at the Winter Gardens from 30 September until 6 October. The pier is expected to be completely restored by the summer of 2010. |
