Over the next 18 months Network Rail will embark on an £18m project to rebuild Derby station.

The project will consist of dismantling then completely rebuilding the platform canopies. It will also include building new station lifts to improve accessibility for less mobile passengers.

Work will take place in 4 phases between February 2008 and June 2009.Preliminary work will take place over the Christmas period with work on the first phase expected to get underway in February 2008.

Network Rail Route director Dyan Crowther said: "This major investment will transform Derby into a bright modern station fit for the city and the thousands of passengers who use it every day. This is a big job and to minimise disruption we will be completing the project in phases to keep the station open for passengers and train services throughout."
