| Mortgage lending up by 16% |

The number of loans given out for house purchases in the UK increased by 16% in April compared with the previous month, new figures have shown.
A total of 35,600 loans were advanced to people for house purchase during the month, the highest level since October last year, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders. However that’s still 28% down on the same time last year. Loans to first time buyers were up 11% month-on-month to 13,500, while loans to home movers rose 19% to 22,100.
