Migrant workers hit UK construction claims TUC report E-mail

Migrant workers could be causing job losses and falls in the rate of pay for the construction sector, a TUC report has revealed.

However, the organisation said the UK economy has overall gained from migrant workers.

The report, the Economics of Migration, claimed there are anecdotal accounts that migration may be causing job losses in the construction sector.

It said there were also reports of depressed wages in the construction industry.

However, it said migrant workers are making a substantial contribution to the economy of the UK. The TUC said: “Contrary to far right accusations that immigrants are a drain on the welfare state, TUC research shows that migrant workers are paying more taxes than the value of the public services they receive.”
