The Department for Transport has given Manchester Airport £165m of government funding to improve road access.
The funding would also allow new sections of road to be built between the M56 Manchester Airport Spur and the A555; and between the A555 and the A6 at Hazel Grove, if local and regional partners commit to the scheme. Geoff Hoon, Transport Secretary, said: “Making this funding available for new road links around Manchester Airport reflects our commitment to support economic growth in the UK. “Manchester International Airport is the 4th largest airport in the UK and of crucial economic importance reliability of to the future prosperity of the North of England. “The proposed link between the airport and the A6 to the east will help airport employees, passengers travelling to the airport from South East Manchester and from further afield, other long-distance traffic on the M60 and M56 and the wider local community." |
