Manchester Airport freight plan E-mail
Thursday, 18 September 2008

Manchester Airport Group, the owner of various regional airports,  is in talks with local landowners and Manchester City Council over plans to build a new 1.5 million sq ft freight terminal close to Manchester Airport.

The group has already submitted a planning application to increase the size of its existing World Freight Terminal off the M56 by 250,000 sq ft to manage freight, but reports suggest that talks are ongoing about a much larger scheme.

The plans come at a time when the traditional motor of airport growth passenger traffic is seen as slowing over the medium term.

The airport group is owned by the towns that make up Greater Manchester county.
