Up to 1,000 London Underground workers are to hold two 72-hour strikes in a dispute over pay and conditions.
Members of the Rail Maritime and Transport Union (RMT) at Tube lines will walk out at 12noon Wednesday August 20 then again from noon on Wednesday, September 3. Maintenance workers voted by more than three to one in favour of industrial action after the RMT claimed the company's pay offer of 4.85% would leave staff worse off than those working on other parts of the network. It has also been reported that over 700 RMT members working as cleaners on the Tube are also going to go on strike in a separate row over pay. The cleaners will strike from 5.30am on August 21 for 48 hours in the latest action over a campaign to win the so-called London Living Wage of £7.45 an hour. It will be their third strike over pay. The affected lines will be the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Northern. |
