The 72-hour London tube strike, that had been due to start today, has been called off after an improved pay offer was agreed.
Union officials yesterday announced the strike had been called off after last-ditch talks. Around 1,000 RMT transport union members threatened to walk out as of noon today in a dispute over pay. The RMT said that it had suspended the action and would be putting the new offer to members in a ballot with the recommendation that they accepted the improved deal. The strike would of seriously disrupted services on the London Underground, hitting services on the Piccadilly, Northern and Jubilee lines. The RMT had also called a second 72-hour strike which had been due to start on September 3 and which will now almost certainly not go ahead. |
