The on-off saga of Liverpool FC's new £350m Stanley Park stadium took another twist today with news that contractor Laing O Rourke had moved back on site. A statement from the clubs US owners said that the contractor for the 60,000 seat stadium was on site carrying out essential enabling works. The designs, by Ryder HKS, received outline planning permission in May for a 60,000-seat stadium, though this could be expanded to 73,000 if further permission is granted. Chairman George Gillett said: "We have been working very hard over the last six months to move the details of the design along but this is the first tangible evidence for fans that a New LFC Stadium will be built. Liverpool Council has granted the club an interim licence to carry out work, while talks about the precise nature of the lease continue. |
