Land Securities has submitted a planning application for the second phase of a major retail led mixed-use development in Corby town centre. 'Evolution Corby' designed by Chapman Taylor Architects centres on a former bus station and existing multi-storey car park. It will provide 350 residential units, 450,000 sq ft of retail space, an 8,000 sq ft sports facility and two new car parks. It is the next phase of development following the opening in October last year of the £35m Willow Place. Since opening in 2007, Willow Place has transformed Corby's retail offer with the introduction of ten first time retailers to the expanding East Midlands town. Anchored by TK Maxx, its 20 shop units include fashion retailers such as New Look, Dorothy Perkins, Burton, Evans, River Island and Jane Norman arranged around an open single-level street. Subject to planning approval, construction work could begin in 2010 with completion in 2012. |
