To mark the occasion, Lancashire County Cricket Club’s commercial director Geoff Durbin, vice chairman Geoffrey Shindler OBE, head coach Peter Moores and Morgan Ashurst’s senior contracts manager, Tony McCabe were in attendance at the official ‘topping out’ ceremony.

Geoff Durbin said:

“Standing on the top of The Point looking across the City of Manchester, it’s hard to believe that it was only ten months since we were at ground level conducting the turf cutting ceremony. Now the main structure is complete our team have already started the planning for the official opening in June.”  

Construction company Morgan Ashurst started work on the development in April last year, which when completed in June 2010, will be one of the largest purpose-built facilities in the country, accommodating a conference or formal dinner for 1,000 people. From the public to the private sector The Point is expected to be a popular venue, be it weddings or dinner dances, exhibitions, product launches or conferences.

Morgan Ashurst’s Tony McCabe said:

“As a Manchester company, we’re extremely proud to complete this landmark phase of construction at The Point. It’s been a challenging project. For example, last summer we were working in close proximity to 250,000 fans during the Take That concerts. By changing our site boundaries regularly we have kept everyone safe and kept the project on schedule.”
